I am very confused what is the difference between Business Objects & Crystal reports? Are they the same thing?

The trio met as members of the board of Singularity University, which is based in the NASA Ames campus in Silicon Valley. A year ago, they started the company with some initial funding from Pell and Jain, but they have since raised a little bit of angel funding. with seven full-time employees and a handful of contractors, the company isn’t looking for big round of funding just yet. it is all in the future, Pell said.

Pell spent a large portion of his working life at NASA before leaving to work in Silicon Valley. he worked on projects for the Mars Exploration Rover mission along with several other projects related to autonomous systems. he was also involved in the development of one of the first artificial intelligence systems to fly onboard (and control) a deep space probe. “I’m still fully engaged with my day job at Bing, but this is definitely an exciting nights and weekends [almost literally moonlighting] job for me,” Pell wrote.For now the company has a contract from NASA worth up to $10 million  “for the initial delivery order of the ‘Innovative Lunar Demonstration Data (ILDD)’ program.” the company is competing in the $30 million Google Lunar X PRIZE, “a competition to place a robot on the Moon’s surface that travels 500 meters and transmits high definition video, images and data back to Earth.”

Moon Express describes itself as a “lunar transportation and data services company created to establish new avenues for commercial space activities beyond Earth orbit” and “will be sending a series of robotic spacecraft to the Moon for ongoing exploration and commercial development.” what does that mean? “Our big play is to develop a robotic lander to transport things to (and from) the moon,” Pell said. And why would we do that?

“There is eventually going to be a moon rush, because there are a lot of resources on the moon that we will need,” said Pell. Resources like platinum and other metals that are needed for fuel cells and the post-fossil fuel economy. “In the future we want to be able to land the payloads and machines and bring things back,” said Pell. ”We want to be the last mile to the moon.”

Crazy? Absolutely! Impossible? Probably not! There are a growing number of people who believe that with federal funding for our space program getting scarce, the future lies in private-public partnerships. Entrepreneur Elon Musk’s third job (after leading electric car company Tesla and acting as the Chairman of solar installer SolarCity) is heading up SpaceX, which was the first private company to successfully launch, orbit and recover a rocketship. Virgin’s Richard Branson has a similar private space venture.

Rare metals have suddenly become a hot commodity in products from hybrid vehicles batteries, to wind turbines, to compact fluorescent light bulbs to magnets for electric vehicle motors. Particularly now that China, which owns control of 95 percent of rare earth metals, decided to cut its exports of those metals.

Of course governments of China and other emerging economies like India and Brazil have had similar thoughts about tapping into moon’s resources and are spending billions of dollars.

When I asked Pell how he plans to compete with the seemingly unlimited resources of nations, he said that the company has a few tricks up its sleeve that he is going to be sharing at a later stage. And yes, they will be seeking funding, eventually.

Futures Trading Strategy – What's Working For You In The Forex Futures Market Now?

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOX) - Word out of  Missouri Governor Jay Nixon’s office this morning;  the Obama Administration has approved $269 million in new lending to Missouri small businesses to help create jobs.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury and Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced that the approval of Missouri’s State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) application. Missouri’s planned use of the SSBCI funds will help create new jobs and is expected to spur more than $269 million in additional small business lending in that state. The SSBCI program, which supports state-level, small-business lending programs, is an important component of the Small Business Jobs Act that President Obama signed into law last fall.

Under the Small Business Jobs Act, Missouri can access $26.9 million in SSBCI funds. Missouri expects to generate a minimum “bang for the buck” of at least $10 in new private lending for every $1 in federal funding. As such, this $26.9 million allocation for Missouri is expected to support more than $269 million in new private lending in that state.

Missouri’s approved plan dedicates $16.9 million of the state’s SSBCI funding to establish the hi-tech Missouri IDEA Seed and Venture Capital Funds (IDEA Funds). IDEA stands for Innovation, Development and Entrepreneurial Advancement.

The Missouri IDEA Funds promote the formation and growth of businesses that engage in the transfer of science and technology into job creation. The funds provide financing to eligible businesses through four components that correspond to the four stages of venture growth: (1) pre-seed capital stage financing; (2) seed capital stage financing; (3) venture capital stage financing; and (4) expansion stage debt.  Collectively, these four components will provide financing opportunities throughout the process entrepreneurs call the “continuum of capital.” In this way, the funds will support new venture formation and growth all the way from research and development to commercialization.

Missouri’s approved plan also dedicates $10 million of SSBCI funding to the Grow Missouri Loan Participation Fund. That program supports the formation and growth of businesses in the industrial, commercial, agricultural, and recreational sectors. it provides loans of up to $3 million to businesses with under 500 employees to help attract new enterprises and expand existing companies.

Under the State Small Business Credit Initiative, all states are offered the opportunity to apply for federal funds for state-run programs that partner with private lenders to increase the amount of credit available to small businesses. States must demonstrate a reasonable expectation that a minimum of $10 in new private lending will result from every $1 in federal funding. accordingly, the $1.5 billion federal funding commitment is expected to result in at least $15 billion in additional private lending nationwide.

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner announced the approval of Missouri’s SSBCI application during a conference today at the U.S. Treasury Department entitled, “Access to Capital: Fostering Growth and Innovation for Small Companies.” The conference brings together policymakers, entrepreneurs, investors, academics, and other market participants to explore how both the public and private sectors can help promote access to capital at each stage of growth for a small business – from seed capital, to growth equity, to accessing the public markets.

TOKYO, March 9 (Reuters) – The euro fell for a thirdstraight session against the dollar on Wednesday, with furtherlosses likely, as investors were unconvinced that Friday’sEuropean summit would quell concerns about the region’s fiscalproblems.

The U.S. dollar also rose against most of the majorcurrencies, helped by a retreat in oil prices. Lower oil pricestend to help the greenback as it reduces U.S. crude oil imports.

Traders said short-term support for the euro is at $1.3862,the high on Feb 2. As long as the euro stays above that level,the uptrend for the currency remains intact, although a breakbelow it should target the $1.3710-12 area, last week’s low.

The market’s focus is pinned on a European Union summit onFriday. Seventeen heads of state expected to agree on acomprehensive pact that will attempt to overhaul the euro zoneeconomies, which should help to avert a future debt crisis.

“The proximity to Friday’s EU summit is making peoplenervous about the euro,” said David Forrester, senior currencystrategist at Barclays Capital in Singapore. “Near term we arebearish on the euro. We see the euro at $1.38 over a one-monthperiod.”

Barclays (LSE: BARC.L – news) has remained positive on the euro over the longerhaul. it raised its forecast on the euro over a six-month and12-month period to $1.42 and $1.45, respectively, supported byearlier than expected European Central Bank rate hikes.

in late Tokyo trading, the euro was down 0.2 percent at$1.3879, retreating further from Monday’s four-month peak of$1.4036 on electronic trading platform EBS . That jumpin the euro was a carry-over from last week’s tough inflationtalk by ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet, who surprised marketsby flagging a possible rate hike as early as next month.

on the charts, George Davis, chief technical analyst RBC (MCX: RBCI.ME – news)Dominion Securities in Toronto, said key Fibonacci levels arecurrently at play, helping to limit the rally in the euro.

For the long term, Davis cited the 50 percent Fibonacciretracement of the 2008-2010 decline at $1.3960, which is actingas resistance to the euro’s advance.

on a medium-term basis, there was also the 61.8 percentFibonacci retracement of the November (Berlin: NBXB.BE – news) 2009-June 2010 decline at$1.3898, Davis said, and on a short-term horizon, the 76.4percent retracement of the November 2010-January 2011 slide at$1.3948. Both levels have also curbed the euro’s gains.

Overall, with an interest rate hike looming in the eurozone, the euro’s outlook has remained positive on a medium-termhorizon, although traders said there was caution in the optionsmarket.

according to flows data from Credit Suisse (NYSEArca: CSMA – news) , there was buyingof bearish euro option structures overnight against sterling,the Swiss franc and the U.S. dollar.

in addition, one-month euro/dollar implied volatility edgedup on Wednesday, trading at 10.05 percent , from 9.95percent on Tuesday. That suggested slightly higher expectationsof fluctuations in the currency’s value.

In general, volatility tends to rise when a currency isfalling.

The stance in the options market on the euro reflects somenervousness among investors that upcoming ECB rate hikes couldcripple the peripheral economies in the euro zone.

The dollar also rose against the yen, gaining 0.3 percent to82.80 yen , helped by a generally rising trend in U.S.Treasury yields. on Wednesday, yields were flat, with two-yearTreasuries at 0.729 percent, while 10-year yields slipped to3.546 percent from 3.555 percent the previous session.

Dollar/yen is the currency pair most sensitive to movementsin bond yields because both low-yielding units compete as themarket’s favored funding currencies for the purchase of riskyassets. any shift in the yield curve or rate expectationstypically impacts both currencies.

Fund managers have been buyers of dollar/yen in recentweeks, according to UBS (NYSEArca: DJCI – news) , although the bank said choppy U.S.yields have limited gains in the currency pair. UBS said itsclients have bought $1 billion worth of dollar/yen so far thisyear, considered paltry given the pair’s deep liquidity. Theaverage daily volume in dollar/yen is about $140 billion.

The retreat in oil prices also helped the dollar’s cause.Brent crude for April delivery fell 0.5 percent to$112.52 per barrel. That helped the greenback move higheragainst the Swiss franc to 0.9366 franc , up 0.2percent, for a second straight day of gains versus the Swisscurrency. FOREX-Euro falls for third day; dollar up as oil slips

It creeps up slowly in small increments. No one pays it much attention. we go about our daily business until one day someone looks up and sees that it has risen to an uncomfortable range.

I’m talking about mortgage insurance premiums. Effective April 18, mortgages backed by the Federal Housing Administration will see an increase in insurance premiums. This is the third increase in the last 12 months.

The FHA is boosting the annual mortgage insurance premium charged on its home loans, a move that will increase the cost of an average FHA mortgage by about $30 a month on a $300,000 home loan.

Earlier this year, the FHA announced that it would take this step and several others to boost its reserves, which are dropping as it takes on big losses from loans it had backed before 2009. The FHA has been under pressure to take even more dramatic steps, particularly to raise minimum down payments from their current level of 3.5 percent to 10 percent. For now, it is just increasing insurance premiums.

One of President Obama’s top goals is to get out of the mortgage industry, and Congress is delegating more power to FHA to right its ship. No longer is the government in the business of bailing out major lending institutions, because I presume, it is politically incorrect.

With this step, the FHA is hoping to increase its reserves and insure only qualified buyers. by instituting this increase, it is hoping to compel lenders into more lending too. Everyone is watching and wondering what is going to happen with this administration and housing finance reform.

Should the government get out of the mortgage industry? That’s a question that is being heavily debated on Capital Hill. All the reforms in the works are an attempt to pump private capital back into lending. Investors want protection, but so do the folks on Main Street, right?

Stated income loans are a distant memory. now, loan applications and income verifications are scrutinized more then ever. Getting an underwriter to approve a loan takes legitimate work. those recovering from a short sale are eager to get back into the market of homeownership and leave the life of renting behind. most short sellers lost their homes due to a rate adjustment, not significant income losses.

In hopes of building its nest egg, the FHA is passing on the cost to the general public for the sins it committed when it allowed anyone with a pulse to purchase a home a few years ago.

Gone are the days of the 10 percent to 20 percent equity gains per year on a home. The pace of home appreciation now resembles a turtle – slow and steady. But don’t be dismayed: real estate is still the safest investment for retirement.
